Posted by TSS Medicare Helper on Apr 12, 2017 12:00:00 PM

You may be interested to know that there are ways you can expand on your Medicare coverage outside of just enrolling in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). 3 Ways to Protect Yourself From Medicare Excess Charges

Posted by TSS Medicare Helper on Apr 2, 2017 12:00:00 PM

If you have not, it is a term you may want to become familiar with. One of the components of Medicare Part B is the excess charge. These Part B charges can come about if an enrollee goes to see a physician or receives services from a hospital or facility that does not accept Medicare. If they do not accept Medicare, and the Medicare approved amount for service is lower than what they charge, then the doctors or hospitals can claim excess charges. This means that depending on what your plan pays- you could be left responsible paying the difference between what Medicare pays versus what the doctor charges.

Regular dental, vision and hearing exams are important when it comes to maintaining your overall health. Each year CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) measures Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) and Part D Prescription Drug (PDP) plans to see how well they are performing. The grade each plan receives is based on a range from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest a plan can receive, and one being the lowest. Medicare scores how well the plans do in several categories and the plan is assigned one Star Rating to summarize the plan’s overall performance, as well as separate Star Ratings in each of the individual categories reviewed. Do You Know What a Medigap Plan Is?

Posted by admin on Feb 20, 2017 4:31:17 PM

While Original Medicare pays for many of your health care services and supplies, it may not cover everything you need.  You may want to consider enrolling in a Medicare Supplement plan, also know as a Medigap plan.

Unlike Original Medicare, Medigap plans are offered through private insurance companies. These plans help cover some of the hospital and medical costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover such as copayments, coinsurance and yearly deductibles. Some plans also help pay for services such as Part B excess charges, emergency overseas travel, and 2 out of the 10 Medigap plans include a yearly out of pocket limit, all of which Original Medicare does not.

In other words,  a Medigap policy can fill in “the gaps” of Original Medicare.

What Is Medicare Part C?

Posted by TSS Medicare Helper on Sep 28, 2016 12:00:00 PM

Medicare Part C, often referred to as Medicare Advantage Plans (MA plans), are plans that are offered by private insurance companies that have been approved by Medicare. So, if you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you will still have Medicare, however, you will get your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) coverage from the Medicare Advantage plan and not from Original Medicare. MA plans must provide all of the same coverage that Original Medicare does, but it may also offer some added coverage such as vision, dental, hearing and prescription drug coverage.
