CMS Announces Medicare Advantage Premium Changes for 2020

In a statement released last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has reported that Medicare Advantage (MA) plan premiums for the year 2020 are expected to decrease 23% from plan year 2018, while plan choices, benefits and enrollment continue to climb. The Medicare Advantage average monthly premium will be the lowest it has been in in thirteen years for the roughly 24 million people with Medicare who are calculated to enroll in an MA plan for 2020.

Medicare Star Ratings: What Are They and How Do They Affect Me?

Each year CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) measures Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) and Part D Prescription Drug (PDP) plans to see how well they are performing. The grade each plan receives is based on a range from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest a plan can receive, and one being the lowest. 2017 Projected Part D Premiums

Medicare announced that the average basic premium for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan in 2017 will remain fairly stable at a projected $34 a month.  This new estimate represents an increase of nearly $1.50 over the average premium of $32.56 for 2016.  Although Part D premiums remain relatively stable, Part D costs to continue to rise faster than any other parts of Medicare.
