Which is Better for you: Medicare Advantage vs. Original Medicare?

Posted by TSS Medicare Helper on Apr 24, 2017 12:00:00 PM

Medicare Advantage has become a popular alternative to just having original Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. As you may already know, Medicare Advantage (MA) plans serve as an alternative to traditional Medicare, and they are supposed to provide plan members with coverage that is “as good or better” than original Medicare.

Life Insurance with Pre-Existing Conditions

Posted by admin on Nov 7, 2014 4:49:37 PM

You may remember having to answer a lot of health questions in order to apply for life insurance in the past. However, having some health conditions to report does not always mean you will get declined for life insurance. The fact that you smoke, could stand to lose a few pounds or even take prescription medication because of a chronic medical condition should not keep you from shopping for a good life insurance policy to help protect your family and preserve your peace of mind. These days, some policies require the answers to very few health questions, and some guaranteed acceptance policies do not require you to answer any health questions at all.

How can you downsize for retirement?

Posted by admin on Sep 2, 2014 2:25:01 PM

Hopefully, you can consider your retirement a new beginning. The freedom from having to report to work every day may give you more time to pursue varied interests and enjoy a life without work-related stress. In order to make retirement even more comfortable, many seniors decide to downsize. Keeping some things that made sense during the years when people raised kids, worked on a career, and tried to accumulate assets may not really make sense during retirement years.

Popular Medicare Supplements: Plan F, G, and N

Posted by admin on Aug 18, 2014 12:28:27 PM

All supplement plans have to be standardized, and the different levels are named Plan A through Plan N. You can visit Medicare.gov to see a chart that outlines the benefits of each of these Medicare supplement plan levels. However, it might be faster and more helpful to simply compare a few different plans at a time. Three pretty popular and comprehensive plan levels are called Plan F, G and N, so we'll start with those.

Do I need travel insurance with Medicare?

Posted by admin on Aug 6, 2014 6:43:36 PM

Are you planning to travel or even live overseas during retirement? This might be a great time to see the world. Just be aware that your Medicare benefits, or any US-based health insurance plan, may not really provide adequate medical coverage after you leave the country. Original Medicare (Part A & B) only covers medical care outside of the US in some very specific circumstances that does not apply to the majority of elderly travelers. Some Medicare plans offer emergency services outside of the country, but this may not be sufficient for an extended trip.

How do Medicare Advantage and VA benefits work together?

Posted by admin on Aug 2, 2014 9:00:47 PM

After serving our country in a branch of the US military, many veterans are entitled to health benefits through the VA. However, VA doctors and hospitals are not always convenient options. The vast majority of retired veterans also qualify for Medicare Part A and Part B, and many also choose to maximize those benefits with a Medicare Advantage plan or the addition of a Medicare supplement.
